For parents, children are the sunshine that lights up their lives. Their vigor for life and unabashed zest for adventure often bring smiles from onlookers and love from their families. But when your child is injured, you need an attorney to help you find the light at the end of the tunnel, and provide you and your child with the relief you need to move forward with your lives.

The Rocky McElhaney Law Firm is committed to providing families with maximum results in child injury cases, and we work tirelessly to ensure that your child's future will be a bright one.

Making every effort to secure your child's future

Our Nashville injury attorneys represent families across Tennessee whose children suffer from:

Many childhood injuries can lead to serious consequences later on in life. Suffering brain damage as a child can lead to permanent mental problems and a lifetime of reliance on family members and doctors to provide care. Moreover, fracturing a growth plate in an accident can limit future growth and mobility for children. It can even result in deformity of the spine, arms and legs. It is important to remember this when dealing with insurance companies. They often attempt to settle quickly with victims' families to avoid being liable for injuries that manifest months or even years after the initial accident.

Do your homework on pre-schools and day care centers

Parents often trust child care centers to take care of their children while they work. However, many child injuries occur under the watch of supervisors at these locations, and it is critical for parents to investigate day care centers and pre-schools to ensure that their children will be safe.

When visiting a potential child care center, it is helpful to:

  1. Talk to the staff and find out their credentials and number of years caring for children.
  2. Check all toys and playground equipment for loose parts, choking hazards and rust.
  3. Ask to see the Department of Human Services report card for the facility. Tennessee day care facilities caring for five or more children must be licensed by the Department of Human Services (DHS), and the DHS issues an annual report card that must be displayed inside the facility.
  4. See if the center is Star-Quality. The Star-Quality Child Care Program is a voluntary program that recognizes child care agencies that exceed the state's minimum licensing requirements. This program also issues annual report cards, and agencies can receive up to three stars for the quality of their care.

The Tennessee Child Care Resource and Referral Centers are another pivotal resource for parents to use to learn information about child care providers in Tennessee, and provide a helpful list to help you find a center close to your home.
