According to their website, in order to be selected to the National Trial Lawyers: Top 100 list, a candidate must meet certain criteria. Those criteria include:

- Achievements, settlements and verdicts as a trial lawyer;
- Board certification as a trial lawyer;
- Nominations from leading trial lawyers, current members and Executive Committee members;
- Leadership and membership in other national and state trial lawyer organizations; and
- Rankings and ratings by leading national evaluation organizations.
Only attorneys who are currently in practice may be nominated.
While this organization is charged with upholding the administration of justice in the courtroom, it also provides networking opportunities for trial lawyers, educational programs, client advocacy training, and resources to make our practice stronger which makes our clients’ experience even better.
