Tennessee Highway Patrol wrote 13,549 tickets for texting and driving in 2016. Last year, our state saw 1,037 highway related deaths. That’s up 75 from the year before. That’s the highest number of deaths since 2008. The Tennessee Highway Patrol indicates that distracted driving is probably the most likely cause of the spike in deaths. Here’s the fact: distracted driving hurts some and kills others.
The Tennessee legislator passed laws against texting and driving in 2009. In Tennessee, you are not allowed to receive or read a text or send a text while driving. If you want to be safe and keep others around you safe, don’t text and drive. That text can wait. If you do text and drive, your vehicle is liable to end up here, and you’re liable to end up in a morgue or a hospital. Or worse, send someone else there.
