“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.” – 1 Peter 4:10 ESV
Jill Draughon grew up north of Nashville in Goodlettsville, Tennessee. While attending school at Pioneer Christian Academy in Whites Creek, she was taught to always put others before herself and to always be a helper to others. These attributes have carried over throughout her life and career.
Jill knew at a very early age that she wanted to become an attorney. In elementary school, she and her best friend would pretend to be lawyers. Jill was inspired by TV shows and movies where confident, determined, powerful women characters were breaking the glass ceiling and making their own way in the legal world alongside their male counterparts. She knew it, even then, that the law would become the mechanism by which she would use her abilities to do good in the world.
The journey to her chosen profession did not come easily. Law school is hard all on its own, let alone trying to make it through as a single mother without any help. During school, Jill got her feet wet as a runner for a local personal injury firm. She believes it’s these difficult and strenuous hours of her life spent working, going to school, and then coming home to be a mom that conditioned her to fight harder than anyone else for the things she wanted in life.
After graduating from Nashville School of Law in 1997 Jill immediately began representing the firm’s personal injury clients. It is there, where she specialized in workers’ compensation and where she has fought tirelessly for the last 20 years helping employees receive the benefits that they are entitled. Despite serious reforms and benefit cuts that have nearly crippled the workers’ compensation system in recent years, Jill has continued to stand by the hard-working folks of Tennessee that need an advocate in their corner.
In 2016, Jill experienced both the joy of watching her baby boy (her pride and joy) went off to college at Lipscomb University in Nashville, and the pain of losing her mother to advanced dementia, for whom she had been a full-time caretaker of for many years.
In the midst of all of these very significant life transitions, Jill received an open-ended offer from Rocky to join the best personal injury firm in Tennessee. With new perspective and suddenly much more time on her hands to think about making a change, Jill decided that Rocky Law Firm’s caring and zealous approach to representing their clients and aggressive and innovative legal methods were just what she needed to continue doing the most good for others.
In March of 2017, RML welcomed Jill to its elite group of legal gladiators with open arms. Jill’s unique life outlook, her compassion, and her drive to do everything she can to help her clients’ through life’s most difficult moments will be put to good use behind the Rocky McElhaney Law Firm’s famous blue door.
In her spare time, Jill teaches Sunday School every weekend at the Church of Grace Park and she loves watching her 14 month old niece.
