“Every man is guilty of all the good he did not do.” —Voltaire
Attorney James Klein adds an air of international sophistication to our team of diligent, no-nonsense lawyers. James lived in Paris, France until he was five. Then his family relocated to Miami where he spent the bulk of his younger years in the surf and sand of South Florida’s beautiful beaches and coastlines. Despite his dreamlike location, James’ family was not a stranger to struggle or hard work. He was raised by a single mother and has held a job since the age of fifteen. James is the first attorney in his family and because of his very diverse background, he is able speak Spanish, French, and Polish quite proficiently.
James first discovered that he wanted to pursue a career in law while he attended a pre-law course in high school and participated in the Miami Dade Schools Mock Trial Competition with his classmates. He went on to attend college locally at St. Thomas University and received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Miami School of Law.
During law school, James was drawn to litigation work and enrolled in a comprehensive Litigation Skills course working for a local judge during law school which is where he got his first taste of working in the legal industry. As a second-year law student, James was selected to be a member of the National Security & Armed Conflict Law Review.
In his final year at Miami Law, James’ above average understanding of legalese was honored with active roles like Dean’s Fellow for Torts and Writing Dean’s Fellow. Under these titles James was called upon to aid fellow law students in developing their legal research and writing skills; teaching them how to pull out the important parts of a case and then how to reassemble that information into concise, accurate and effective legal documents.
Knowing the importance of quickly gaining as much practical experience as he could early on, James interned in the public sector, working with the Florida Office of the Attorney General. He then went on to conquer law clerk positions at two private practice firms in South Florida where he cut his teeth and found his passion for helping people get to a better place.
Just after completing law school and being admitted to the Florida bar, James heard about the great things our firm was doing here in Tennessee and was immediately drawn to our mission for injury victims, our compassion for our clients and the industry-wide recognition we’ve received for being the best at what we do. Even though it meant weeks of intense studying and re-taking the bar exam here in Tennessee, the young Florida attorney made his intent known. And in the fall 2015, Rocky invited him to join the Rocky McElhaney Law Firm. Leaving his friends and family behind, James picked up his basketball and his beach towel and hopped on a plane to make Tennessee his new home sweet home and fulfill his aspirations of helping restore individuals who have been wronged or injured.
In his spare time, James enjoys playing recreational basketball and keeping tabs on his Miami sports teams.
James is admitted to practice law in Florida and Tennessee. James is a member of the American Bar Association, the Dade County Bar Association, and the Broward County Bar Association.
